What is Chichester Greyfriars Housing Association? [Back to top]

Chichester Greyfriars Housing Association Ltd. is a non-profit making, charitable, organisation owning and managing eighty three purpose built self contained flats for older people in Chichester which are let at affordable rents.

What sort of accommodation is available? [Back to top]

We have 71 one and two bedroom flats at Royal Close, Chichester and 12 one bedroom flats at Arthur Ingram Court, St Pancras, Chichester. Two bedroom flats are normally let to two people. All flats are self-contained, have the benefit of a community alarm, stair lift to the first floor and maintained communal gardens for which a service charge is payable. We do not, however, have a warden.

Who can be considered? [Back to top]

Consideration will be given to any person in housing need aged 60 or over, who wishes to live in the Chichester District and is on the Housing Register.

What is a Housing Register? [Back to top]

Chichester Greyfriars HA does not maintain its own waiting list but accepts new tenants from a Housing Register maintained by Chichester District Council. When you complete just one application form your details are held on a housing register and placed in a priority band according to your housing need.

What is Choice Based Lettings? [Back to top]

The scheme enables existing tenants and new housing applicants to bid for properties in their local area that they are interested in and eligible for. All available properties will be advertised on a website and in a fortnightly free magazine, Homemove, available from key pick-up points such as council offices and libraries.

How are flats allocated? [Back to top]

All bids for a property are recorded in priority order by band, local connection and time on the housing register. Preference will be given to those with a local connection with the Parish of Chichester. The Allocation Sub Committee authorise all lettings. A visit will usually be arranged to discuss an individual's housing needs before any offer of a tenancy is made. Allocations are made without discrimination on the grounds of colour, ethnic origin, nationality, race and sex.

Can existing tenants move to another flat? [Back to top]

The Association will consider sympathetically internal transfers or exchanges requested on social or medical grounds.

If I have another housing association tenancy can I apply? [Back to top]

Other housing association tenants in need of re-housing can apply to join the housing register. Mutual exchanges may occur with the agreement of both landlords where tenants wish to swap their homes. Contact your own landlord for more information.

How can a complaint be made? [Back to top]

Complaints about the way an application was dealt with should be made by writing to the Housing Manager or the Treasurer. You have a right of appeal to the Chairman if you are not satisfied with the reply and the final determination of an appeal will be made by the Management Board. There is also a right of reference to the Independent Housing Ombudsman Ltd.

How can I apply? [Back to top]

Complete an application form obtainable from Chichester Greyfriars HA or Chichester District Council and return it to the council with all the information requested. You will then be contacted by Sussex Homemove with your registration date, your number and your priority band together with the reason for the banding.
